Mission StatementSPORTSRECYCLER LTD. will set up a viable social business that provides employment and work related activities for local people. It will develop a range of services and activities that are targeted primarily to residents of disadvantaged communities and people who are interested in sporting activity, but lack the confidence, equipment and experience to engage in any form of physical activity. SPORTSRECYCLER was incorporated in January 2005 as a social enterprise, social wealth, not for profit company. The company aims were to work towards stemming the abuse of landfill where perfectly re-usable cycles and sporting equipment were being dumped. The company also wanted to encourage and promote a healthier lifestyle, particularly to people who, for whatever reason, would not normally have felt they were able to improve their lives with healthy but enjoyable activity. The company further wished to provide employment and training opportunities for people who were disadvantaged in the job market, be it through long term unemployment, emotional or physical issues. The Company has a volunteer Board of Directors with company founder Vince Glassock as Chair, Trish Armitage as Company Secretary and Manager, and volunteers Dave Arundel as Workshop Manager, and Steve Wood as Admin and Sales Co-ordinator. SPORTSRECYCLER is dedicated to serving the local community, as well as working outside the Borough and across the North East. The Company values its partnerships with South Tyneside Council Recycling Village, based at Middlefields in South Shields, and with Gateshead Recycling Plant at Campground, Wrekendon, as well as South Tyneside Council Cycle to Work Scheme and Cyclescheme Ltd. |
